I am NOT MY HAIR!
Ladies, do you love your natural hair? If so, reflect on why you love it for a moment.
Does your natural hair make you feel sexy? Do you feel comfortable wearing your natural hair at work, or in corporate america?
If you answered NO to any of the above questions, then maybe you have felt like myself before.
For so many years I never felt comfortable wearing my natural hair. My hair texture is a 4b, but back in 2006 I didn’t know a thing about hair textures and types. All I knew was she got good hair, and she has nappy hair. Pretty sad, right?
I started wearing sew-ins during my junior year of high school in order to feel cute for not just myself, but fot the boys at my school too. My sew-ins also made me feel like I “fit in” with my caucasian friends and teammates. Before I started getting sew-ins, I also used to relax/perm my hair. My mom needed to ‘tame’ my hair texture. My mother started relaxing my hair when I was 7 years old. In the beginning, my mom took me to a professional; but with playing sports, it’s only so many times your mama is willing to get your hair done in a month, LOL!. After the relaxers, my hair was never the same. My hair broke off due to inconsistency with my monthly “touch-ups” at the beauty shop, which then caused even more breakage to my hair since I tried to do my hair myself at home. Worst decision EVER!!!
In college I continued to wear weave and also continued to relax my hair for the first 2 years. I was never able to retain length during that time. The only time I was able to grow length was during my pregnancy. During my pregnancy with Skye, I also stopped relaxing my hair. I kept on wearing sew ins, but I was never taking care of my natural hair underneath the weave.
After years of trying to figure out how to grow my natural hair, a friend of mine told me about some hair products for my 4b texture. About a year ago, I was introduced to @themanechoice @courtneyadeleye hair products. I started using just the edge control since I was still wearing sew-ins and not caring for my natural hair. However my edges were laid! Around October 2018, I started taking better care of my natural hair by getting my ends clipped and loving on my hair more. Around January/February of this year I began using the mane choice vitamins, shampoo and 3-way leave in products. #GAMECHANGER
Since then, my hair has grown 3 inches. I even got the Boosting Kit from The Mane Choice to add to my hair regimen. Overall, I love this brand. Caring for your natural hair is vital for growth.
